Reboot Wrap Up
06 Jan 2006 10:26 am
The reboot has been declared complete as of three days ago. Though most of the highest ranked are deservedly so, there are a number of standout designs that for whatever reason didn't. I'd like to take this opportunity to comment on a few designs for better or worse:
- Living with Music This site knows the true meaning of "reboot". A beautiful new design that seperates itself from its predecessor in nearly every way.
- More Than Seven The 'three column brochure' style seems to be coming into its own lately, but this site really pulls it off with style and grace.
- ACS Another fantastic departure from its previous design, this site oozes professionalism. From its smooth corners to brilliant color choices, this site really stands out.
- Best Plots What was once an average looking site, has come an extraordinarily long way. Sharp lines and (I'm not ashamed to say) my favorite palette lend the design a cleanliness you could eat off from.
- Andionet I can't say for sure why this reboot isn't at the top of the ranks? This site is a perfect example of minimalism done properly. Unlike the pretentious blank white page that some designers would have you believe is minimalistic art, this site unquestionably does more with less.
- Matt Brett Despite the dusky palette of my own site, I'm with the majority of users who are not a big fan of dark sites. However, Matt Brett may just be the one to change everyone's minds.
Yes, yes, and yes. I agree with you all around and I hope to be part of the next reboot. I plan on launching a redesign of my site this week and the reboot site has been a great source of inspiration.
There were really alot of other sites that deserve attention as well, but I tried to keep the list to my favorites. I have to say, the reboot has garnered alot of traffic for my site. I got a comment this morning (which was promptly deleted) that was nothing short of insulting and vulgar. I guess that means i'm popular!
I too saw the post (and gotta say how I love that you were on top of things as I was). Hate to say it, but to me was a typical kid trying to get attention by being a "screaming brat" (or testing if you would notice). That being said, I hope that this hasn't put you down from making a wonderful site, for both yourself and others. (I gotta admit they did a phenomenal job at organizing my rants and raves online *LOL*) I am looking forward to everyones design of their sites, and hope a new one of my own next year (too happy with mine now to change :-) ).
Thanks for your recognition. A new, fluid design of my website is already in the making.
Thanks for the nice words. I've also noticed a number of other sites playing around with three columns of late. Dont know whether it's because people are breaking away from the idea of perfection at 800px wide or what but certainly for me it let me get away with including LOTS of content in the sidebars of every page - and keeping the page count itself down to a minimum.
Thanks for the kind words. My redesign was a quick draw (despite quite a bit of time invested in reading up on new techniques) to not once again get too lost in the design process, and I hope to have some free time these upcoming weeks to weed out the most abominable coding errors or deficiencies. In order to do that though, I need to spend a lot more time studying up on CSS and the box model, and right now I've got too much other stuff to do. The site, as it stands today, was altogether really a trial and error job. Cheers!
