As have many others before me, I got tired of the spam that seems to pervade every facet of the Internet. Even this site. I wrote my own spam filter, and it has caught its fair share of spam, but in the end I spend entirely too much time reviewing comments to insure they are illegitimate before I delete them. My first thought was to implement a CAPTCHA on the comment form. However, after reading Sitepoint's interesting debate on the accessibility issues and ultimate downfall of the method, I have decided to have a go with the Akismet anti-spam service. With any luck, nobody will even notice the implementation, except of course the endless line of spammers.
